Responsibilities would include:

The Architect will partner with the business and application manager, and will be responsible for defining the big picture business/tech vision for the department. In addition, s/he will be responsible for translating business needs into a multi-product, multi-year roadmap representing the evolution of trading.

The Architect will report to the head of Trading Technology Department.

Position Requirements:

1. Architectural Ability and Experience
a. 5+ years in a senior development or architecture role. S/he should have a minimum of 2+ years tenure at a firm – as this position requires advanced architectural experience.
b. Interest in a technical track as this position may not entail a management track
c. Technical curiosity and passion. Should show strong drive to learn languages, platforms, technologies.
d. Passion to tackle complexity and seek new challenges
e. Deep framework knowledge. Either very strong in .Net or stellar in Java/J2EE.
f. Strong architectural aptitude. Technical talents need to be at the right level – i.e., more of a Visio/systems person than a mathematician or algorithm-optimizer.
g. Strong foundation of Object-oriented Analysis and design. Understands OO principle and has hands-on experience to apply principles to implementation.
h. Verifiable experience in building system architecture and design

2. Strategic vision / roadmap / standard
a. Understand the high-level business goals and create a business/technology vision aligned to the goals
b. Understand the technology marketplace, evolution in technology and ensures that they are represented in the vision
c. Work with a Portfolio Manager to create lower level portfolio roadmaps and ensure these align with the high level vision
d. Establish architectural & technology standards and best practices. Ensure these are represented in projects and provide architecture oversight of solution designs.

3. Leadership / Communication
a. Clear and crisp communicator with the ability to synthesize/elaborate on technical aspects and/or details as needed across various contexts – e.g. architectural standards, management reporting, business impact, etc. S/he must be able to communicate well verbally, in writing, and visually.
b. Ability to apply common sense – can apply 80/20 rule to architecture and do basic prioritization
c. Quick learner and ability to evaluate and mentor developers as well as additional architects
d. Management experience is a plus

4. Business Knowledge
a. Hands-on experience with one or many of the trading application portfolios (OMS, EMS, Market Data, Analytics)
b. Understanding of the competitive landscape and working knowledge of global financial markets, exchanges, etc.
